STERILISATION CAMPAIGNS
We, Protect Xai-Xai's Furry Friends and Community, together with our partners, Vets on the Road, Network for Animals, PATA and the Dept of Agriculture, strive to serve and protect our communities with annual sterilisation and vaccination campaigns.
In past campaigns we have sterilised between 40 and 50 animals, and vaccinated around 80 to 100 each time. Rabies in rural communities can be problematic and vaccinations assist in keeping the community safe. The over population of domestic animals also poses a threat to communities as an unsterilised male dog can become aggressive which can lead to dangerous packs of dogs amongst the population. Sterilisation also contributes to animal health, as a sterilised animal's immune system is stronger. Females do not breed every 6 months, and males do not travel long distances in search of mates. If a dog becomes problematic the population are quick to poison and kill the animal. Therefore by keeping the population levels low, the problematic dogs are also kept at a minimum.
HOW TO HELP:
The surgeries, surgical meds and rabies vaccinations are sponsored. What we do need is tick and flea powder or drops, dewormers, and collars.
